This toolkit is designed to support teams/trainers with no promotion experience and very little resources, as well as seasoned pros alike wanting to maximize results. Here you'll find step-by-step guidance to make the most of your limited resources, and to maintain a life-serving experience for all involved.
A promotion plan is the best way we know to creating a life-serving promotion team. It keeps you pro-active instead of re-active. It helps you focus on the promotion strategies that are most likely to get you the results you're hoping for (such as a certain level of workshop attendance). And, it absolutely helps you make the most of your limited resources.
We’ve created an MS Word-based form — linked below — that allows you to create a simple promotion plan. Whether you’re promoting a one-time event, or an entire menu of NVC training services; and whether your promotion will take place over a few weeks or an entire year, a plan is a critical element to create a life-serving promotion experience.
Completing your plan can take anywhere from an hour to several weeks, depending on the information you have available before you get started, and the scope of what you’re promoting. We encourage you to complete the plan in partnership with your team (if you have one), to provide opportunity to incorporate everyone’s ideas and feedback.

Now that your promotion plan is done, you’ll have a more solid understanding of the kind of support you’ll need to have in place — your “promotion team” — to implement the plan. It’s now time to recruit your promotion team so the workload is shared.
Remember, some promotion roles are best filled by individuals with professional experience in those areas (such as creating promotion materials or obtaining media coverage). We highly encourage you to recruit a promotion team leader to manage the implementation of your promotion plan. Sample recruitment announcement — Promotion Coordinator

When you created your promotion plan, you identified target audiences or customers to whom you want to direct your promotion. You also identified what methods you'll use to obtain lists of these target customers — whether it be by adding an opt-in form to your web site for email promotion, or purchasing a list for print direct mail.

Now it’s time to take the task list from your promotion plan and begin to check your tasks off, one-by-one. Remember, try to stick with the items on your plan as much as possible — if you created your plan thoughtfully, than your list takes into consideration both the results you’d like to achieve, and the people and financial resources you have available. It can be really easy to get caught up in the “there’s never too much promotion” mentality — be careful. Even low or “no-cost” promotion tactics do have a cost in terms of volunteer time.
